Your use of 1 Corinthians 12.7 is begging thee question. You're assuming that the manifestation is speaking in tongues, when the rest of that verse also lists prophecy, healing, faith, and yes, tongues. All of those are manifestations. They are all signs that you have the Spirit. Especially if one manifests the fruits of the Spirit as well.

Carlos was not being divisive. He was simply stating what the Bible states. That there is one Spirit, but many gifts. He wasn't talking about different "classes" of Christians, simply different gifts from the one God. To state that he was being divisive...is divisive. Just because one doesn't hold one view of the Bible doesn't mean they hold the wrong one.

And I'm not attacking you, Pastor either. I'm a post-Pentacostal Charismatic that fully believes speaking in tongues is a fully functioning, vital part of the church experience. Just not the only one.

The Bible specifically forbids "unauthorized fire" as a method of worship. These spiritual drunkards seem to have missed that truth. We need to ask is this biblical? the answer is a resounding NO!. Acts 2.14 does not say they were acting drunk only that that was the illinformed assessment of those standing by. Further is there any fruit in the movement. Certainly there are "fruits and nuts" but biblical lasting fruit? Paul taught that NT glory doesn't come and go... it has come to stay. Unlike the Kabod of the OT.Further, it seems to me that the movement has become more aggressive against the established church. Saying things like "preaching without the drunkenglory is useless" and "anyone can preach..." yet the Bible never mentions drunkenglory and everywhere mentions salvation that comes through the faith in the message preached. Would that all of them would sober up and preach!

I love all the suggestions. I would add: Admit as a parent that we, too, sometimes will make mistakes. We are our children's first role models and they need to learn that it is okay that we make mistakes. They will watch how we live and learn and carry ourselves. Do we sincerely & humbly apologize and make an effort to rectify the situation? Do we consciously try to better ourselves? I know with my own experiences, not having parents who take accountabilty for their actions really defined relationships and personality traits in my family. We are human, fallable and need our kids to understand that it is okay as long as we come out better in spite of ourselves.

I would definitely have to agree that although Jesus was the Son of God, in referring to Himself as the Son of man, is quite humbling to say the least. Interesting that my devotions this morning were in Luke 9. I noticed in the original language that the topic of discussion between the Prophet and the Law (Moses and Elijah) was his "departure." The greek word here is exodus... hmmm. Is it that they testify to the method of his exodus (ie., Ps 22) or the fact that the power of God would work a mighty deliverance for those bound in slavery to sin by the "departure" of Christ on the Cross. It's because we live in such a cynical world in which we constantly pass judgement but the scripture teaches that "the more we sin, the more His grace abounds". What a great God!

Carlos- sorry you are taking this as a divisive issue. But the evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit in every instance in the Bible is Speaking in tongues. Acts 2,8,10,11,19- otherwise how would you know you have been immersed into the Holy Spirit... instead the Bible says that the Holy Spirit is "fo ryou and your children and for all who are far off". No where in the Bible do you see God promising that everyone of His children will receive the gift of tongues. He promises that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit but not all speak in tongues. I find that the teaching that not all are baptized in the Holy Spirit and only those who speak in tongues are baptized in the Holy Spirit as being unbiblical and unnecessarily divisive to the Body of Christ.

I see your point. For me to come to God, the Wonderful Counselor, and say I want all he has and then turn around and do whatever I want shows me (and God) I am not being honest with God. If we as a people of God can't be honest with God then how can we be honest with others? Maybe the best thing is to be honest about not being honest. The bible says David was a man after Gods own heart and yet his life was riddled with murder, sexual scandal and deceit. And yet he was honest with God and poured out his heart about his shortcomings. Thanks for making me think Dave. I need to do that more and more.

Yeah, I'm scared. It's all been predicted in the scriptures and we're seeing it in our lifetime (the rampant corruption and immorality, the greed, the inhumanity, the false prophets, the lawlessness, etc.) But then there's that great promise, "But he who endures to the end will be saved." (Matt 24:13) Hope we've prepared our hearts to leave mother, father, son, and daughter to take up our crosses and follow after Him. If not, we are not worthy of Him and that's the scariest thing of all!!
