The Blight of Slavery- NOW!

I recently saw the movie 12 Years a Slave. The graphic depiction of the history of our country with regard to slavery is overwhelming. The movie left me with a sense of relief when it ended. For to watch the injustice upon others based upon the prejudices of the heart is almost unbearable. Almost, until you realize that you sat through 2 hours of the injustice and many lived it their whole life time! We breathed a sigh of relief upon getting in the car and thanked God for the fearless men and woman of the abolition movement. But as I began to think of it I realized that slavery hasn't really ended.

The most current statistics on sex trafficking are horrifying if you take a moment out of your day to think about it- and few of us do. According to the U.S. State Department's annual reports on trafficking in a 2005 report, "600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year, with 14,500 to 17,500 trafficked into the U.S. " This does not give any indication of the reason for that exploitation. Many are moved for the purposes of sexual exploitation and some are used for forced labor. As uncomfortable as it is, the numbers are staggering.

And so there is a rising movement to demand change- End it. Please take a moment to view the video below.

May be you want to connect, to make a difference in the lives of the people who are victims of this kind of abuse. You can make a donation to people who are making a difference at Project Rescue and find out more at Endit. As uncomfortable as it is, we should do something!
