Hurt by Johnny Cash

I hurt myself today,
to see if i still feel,
I focus on the pain,
the only thing thats real,

The needle tears a hole,
the old familiar sting,
try to kill it all away,
but I remember everything,

(Chorus)
what have I become,
my sweetest friend,
everyone i know,
goes away in the end,

and you could have it all,
my empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,

I wear this crown of thorns,
upon my liars chair,
full of broken thoughts,
I cannot repair,

beneath the stains of time,
the feelings disappear,
you are someone else,
I am still right here,

What have I become,
my sweetest friend,
everyone I know,
goes away in the end,

and you could have it all,
my empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,

if I could start again,
a million miles away,
I will keep myself,
I would find a way.

I am thankful for the fresh start we have in Christ. To see the video go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=AO9dbmJ_2zU

Pastor Dave, I was surprised to see this song posted by you. When I first heard it, it was sung, if you can call it singing, by Trent Rezner of Nine Inch Nails. The pain of the words speak volumes to me. I have not personally felt so dead inside as the song suggests, but I know people who have been there, hurting themselves to just feel. Pursuing varieties of sins to fill that void, cover that hurt, don't feel, don't feel!
Truly that is one of the biggest blessings that serving Jesus Christ gives us. It stops being about you and becomes all about him. The by-product of knowing Jesus, intimately, is feeling JOY. Not that walk around with a goofy smile, faking and fronting, but for me, knowing, to the depths of my being, that God is on MY side, he wants me to make it, he is my biggest fan, so with God before me, who can be against me? ~Irma
